madama butterfly
emily mitarai and tim koide are the awesomest friends ever. they gave us the BEST wedding gift: tickets to the metropolitan opera.
to say the least, it was AMAZING. the whole opera was very dramatic and beautiful, but the opening scene was my favorite. it looked something like this:
the whole set was beautiful; it was very simple and the back screen would change colors depending on the time of day and/or to match the mood in the scene. sliding rice paper walls would change the setting from inside the house to outside the house, and petals dropping or floating on strings from above gave the garden a romantic feel. the music was beautiful--it was more soothing and melodic than other operas i have seen, and the aria butterfly sang as she was waiting for her husband to return was enchanting.
overall, it was a wonderful night, and to emily and tim, thank you thank you thank you!

Lucky you! Dad and I have wanted to see this new production of "Madame Butterfly" since it opened a couple of years ago. Thanks for the heads up on "Live from the Met" which will show this "Madame Butterfly" in theaters throughout the country in March. We're going!
Of all Puccini's operas, I believe this one has some of the most memorable melodies. The waiting scene is also one of my favorites.
Glad you're taking advantage of NY's offerings. You can partake of the best of the BEST!!!

That is so cool and snazzy! haha (My choice of words tonight have been cheezy) and it makes me miss all the fun things about being newlyweds! enjoy it! plus
Take advantage of all the ritzy things you can do before you head down to rural mississippi! (Anytime I say rural I think about 30 rocks "rural juror")
