i couldn't agree more.

in preparation for the arrival of little man, i've been watching a lot of thomas. lucky for me, one of emily's friends has been watching too and found this little ditty, and i couldn't agree more.

There's no one quite like emily...!

Oh yeah. and what's more American than baseball on labor day weekend? We celebrated our labor by going to the closest thing we could find to baseball: Mobile Bay Bears right out of mobile, alabama. also known for THIS (please, please click and watch). they are a AA feeder team for the arizona diamondbacks.

new beginnings...

emily and i started a lamaze class two weeks ago. it was there that i found this lovely gem of a poem that is too tender not to pass along.

A strong woman works out every day to keep her in body in shape,
But a woman of strength looks deep inside to keep her soul in shape.

A strong woman isn't afraid of anything,
But a woman of strength in shows courage in the midst of her fear.

A strong woman won't let anyone get the best of her,
But a woman of strength gives the best of her to everyone.

A strong woman makes mistakes and avoids the same in the future,
But a woman of strength realizes life's mistakes can also be blessings and capitalize on them.

A strong woman walks sure footedly,
But a woman of strength knows when to ask for help.

A strong woman wears the look of confidence on her face,
But a woman of strength wears grace.

A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey,
But a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong.

i'll tell you what. unknown sure does know what he's talking about. i'm anxious for more from where that came...

camping, anyone?

peter keeps saying he wants to go camping. and, we eventually will need another car . . . maybe this is the right purchase for us???

station wagon living book

however, i'm not too sure these "car seats" would keep our little bambino quite as safe as we'd like him to be . . .

nesting chapters 1 & 2

so while i was away at officer's training school, emily got the jump on her nesting activities. if you frequent the blog, you've already seen the ninja she made a little while back. but add to that list, three stuffed owls, a matching quilt, crib bumpers, and a bed skirt.

needless to say, i was way behind on my nesting.

since our crib that we ordered arrived this afternoon, i decided to play a little catch up.

my $10 dorm room style tool set from many years ago did the job fine.

with some help from emily, we completed the crib assembly task. i think it turned out well...

and since many have asked about emily's sewing projects, i'll showcase them for her. you can see below shots of both the bumpers she made and the sweet owl quilt.

i still think it's funny that we had the crib and car seat ordered and delivered this week. it's a good thing we have that out of the way since we only have three more months before our little boy greets his new room.

so i believe that completes my nesting chapter 1 and emily's nesting chapter 2 (at least)...

welcome home.

i just spent the last 5 weeks at an undisclosed location in Alabama. Since i was in lock down for much of the time there, sometimes i would forget where i was.

as such, it was nice when i got off base every once in awhile to have reminders around the local area to remind me that i was in the South.

here are a few examples of things that tell you you're in the South...

this one's from a church parking lot. i wonder what they really think of the government.

this one's from a local mexican joint that offers 10% discount on Sundays if you bring proof that you attended church that day: i.e. a church bulletin

but it also offers deals for "Thristy Night," which i think is a variation of Thirsty Thursday, but who knows what they were actually trying to spell.

you gotta love the South. i'm so glad to be home.

july

not much has been going on for me this month . . . i've just been hanging out with my cute nieces and brand new nephew.

and this is what peter has been up to:

meet hattori hanzo frandsen

famous ninja warrior.

in my attempt to become more crafty, i made little shigechan's first toy. (too bad i'm not more of a perfectionist, otherwise shigechan would have toys that have straight lines sewn down them . . . but that will come with time, right?) i found this cute little design in the magazine "stuffed" (which highlights different designers of "softie" toys), and then tried my own! check out this whole cute line of softies here.
